SKI PATROLS within SUPERIOR ZONEDryden Ski ClubDryden Ski Club operates on a small hill as well as a series of cross country ski trails. It has four runs and three rope tows. The club relies upon the participation of a great many volunteers to offer a skiing experience. The runs provide a variety of terrains from beginner to intermediate and also offer a demonstration park for snowboarders. The local ski season typically starts around Christmas and runs until the end of March. There are now 12 members of the local ski patrol. The organization holds a number of training sessions prior to and throughout the ski season. The patrol also hosts an annual barbecue to help fundraise for the ski patrol first aid supplies. The Dryden Ski Club helps to subsidize the training costs of the ski patrol and also assists with equipment costs. Kamview Nordic Ski CentreKamview originated as a conservation authority site and is now operated by a not for profit board. Kamview's lights are on until 10pm nightly with 28km Groomed for Skate and Classic, 5.5km night lighted trails, a chalet and snow making. It is a part of the Thunder Bay Nordic Trails Association which includes Sleeping Giant Provincial Park (80km of trails), Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park (13km of trails). TBNTA also grooms Mink Mountain Resort (8km of trails). The Patrol was established in 1996 as a result of the closure of Big Thunder. Big Thunder had an Alpine and Nordic patrol until 1995 when the site was host to the World Nordic Ski Championships. The following winter the site was operated as Nordic only and eventually closed in the spring of 1996. Kamview's small patrol attempts to cover special events and as many operating hours as possible. The biggest nordic skiing annual special event in Thunder Bay is The Sibley Ski Tour held the first Saturday of March each year. Patrollers provide assistance at the six check points, ski in the tour to provide assistance and assist the organizers with sweep of the entire trail. To get to the Kamview Nordic Centre go south on highway 61 from Thunder Bay, turn right at Neebing Roadhouse / NorWester Resort onto the 20th Side Road. Drive for about 1 km. You will see a big sign that says Kamview on your left.
